Diana Memorial Playground: AKA, the Pirate Ship

One of the places that I have been dying to take the kids is the Princess Diana Memorial Playground, and I was so happy that we finally made it over there last month.

It is a pretty good sized play area for the kids and the design is based on the stories of Peter Pan and (obviously) the central element is this huge pirate ship.  It’s perfect.  You can climb up the mast to see far in the distance or go below deck.  We played there first, went around to some of the other things for a while, but eventually came back to it.  It is pretty hard to resist.

There were tepees, totem poles, instruments, and various spinning things tucked away in surrounding bushes.

There was an extensive tree house for running, climbing around on, and sliding out of.

It was a great day out.  There was enough things for the kids to play on that no one got bored, including the adults, but we had to cut it short because it started to rain and no one felt like eating our picnic in the rain.  So we headed for shelter at my favorite Italian restaurant that just so happened to be on the street just beside the park.  Seriously, the best coincidence ever.

Also, as we were leaving the park we saw this group of people learning to roller ski.  Seriously, roller skiing.  I couldn’t help but get a picture.
